Privacy Policy for DocWriter

Last updated: October 15, 2026

DocWriter ("the app", "we", "us") is a Mac application developed by Shashank Shekhar. This policy explains what information DocWriter collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. DocWriter is built to work almost entirely on your own device — this policy is short because the app simply doesn't collect much.

Summary

Information We Collect

Crash and diagnostic data. DocWriter uses Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash reports if the app unexpectedly quits. This can include: device model, operating system version, app version, the state of the app at the time of the crash, and a randomly generated installation identifier. This data is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and is used solely to identify and fix bugs.

Subscription and purchase information. DocWriter Pro subscriptions are purchased and managed through Apple's App Store and StoreKit. Apple handles your payment information directly — DocWriter never receives or stores your card details. DocWriter only receives a signed confirmation from Apple of whether a subscription is currently active, which it uses on-device to unlock editing features.

Documents you create or open. Your documents are stored locally on your Mac by default. DocWriter does not upload your documents to any server we operate.

Google Drive (optional). If you choose to sign in with Google to import or export a document, DocWriter requests access only to the files you specifically select or create through Google's own picker/authorization flow. This access is used solely to open or save that document and is governed by Google's own privacy policy. We do not read, scan, or store the contents of your Google Drive beyond the single action you requested.

How We Use Information

We do not use any of this information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of individual users.

Information Sharing

We don't sell your information. Data is only shared with the services that directly support the feature you're using:

Data Retention

Crash reports are retained by Firebase Crashlytics per Google's standard retention policies. Your documents remain on your device for as long as you keep them; we have no copy of them. If you disconnect Google Drive, DocWriter no longer has access to it going forward.

Children's Privacy

DocWriter is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of DocWriter after a change means you accept the updated policy.
